The effects of a Blazed Epic Touch

Android is awesome, but let's face it, stock ROM's are pretty boring. Usually my first order of business when picking up a new device is to learn as much about it as possible and then proceed to the rooting and flashing custom ROM's process until I find one that I can work with. I tend to land on AOSP builds for obvious reasons, i.e speed, customization, etc. However, those ROM's are still in heavy development and where I have tried them all, I chose a stock based ROM as my daily driver....

I was surprised at how fast it was after it's first boot. It reminded me of why I was impressed by this phone to begin with. It's also themed in the truly hot ICS look(thx Overstew,Vertumus, and KingOfThaJungle) which I dig, but my preferences change almost weekly when it comes to the theme. What I keep are the under the hood tweaks, and this ROM comes with plenty baked into it. When I opened the build.prop to change the wifi scan interval, for instance, it was already set to 250...I have had to make only one personal change to this ROM, so far which was setting the SD card read/write values to 4096kb, and I really dig that! Check the link to see the full list of tweaks and mods. Benchmarks don't mean much (depending on who you ask), but "out of the box" this bad boy produced a 3798 quadrant score. Not too shabby for stock. (note: after overclocking this morning to 1.6ghz it produced a 5101). Sometimes I feel like my fingers can't keep up with how fast and responsive it is.

Blazed Browsing...

Talk about your serious speed. Five second load times, facebook even fully loaded at two seconds! Even my mobile site, which is terrible, only took thirteen seconds! That's quick for my site, believe me. Browsing through the XDA website is much smoother than tapatalk and the xda app itself, to me that saves time and time is precious. First attempts to download .zip files failed so I installed Download All Files from the market and that problem was solved instantly. No need to install third party browsers, unless that's your thing.

Overall...

The stock launcher is still being replaced, and that's Samsung's bad, not PhantomHacker's. TouchWiz needs to go if you ask me. Other than that  I am extremely impressed with this interpretation of the stock build and recommend this as the best daily driver for our device to date. Damn good work by PhantomHacker and anyone else that contributed. If you decide to try this out be sure and hit the thanks button on the original thread and donate to these guys if you can. Also check out the mods and forums @ Phantomroms.com!

Update: as i was typing this the developer has updated to 3.8 with a few fixes. Dig the support, keep up the good work!
